Leather Zippered A5 Leuchtturm1917 Notebook Folio - Crazy Horse Forest Green

I CANNOT overstate how much I love my new folio. The feel of the crazy horse leather is absolutely divine. I love all of the pockets and bands, the weighty, smooth zipper, the color, the way the pocket for your notebook is split to carry a standard notebook or a legal pad, the way the leather will over time show its scuffs, the minimal raw edge of the leather that doesn’t have a coating that will peel, the packaging and customer service; I could go on and on. It’s supple, not too thick, and have I mentioned how soft the leather feels?? I found a phone case from Galen Leather on sale at an authorized retailer and immediately purchased it because I wanted to never let go of my new folio and that was a great compromise. After a couple of weeks, the case is already feeling just right in my hand and my oils from constantly holding my phone have only made it richer.
I have lots of leather products from lots of companies, but nothing has screamed “lifelong craftsmanship” quite like the products I own from Galen Leather.
I currently have mine loaded with a Stalogy 365 notebook (I don’t recommend anything thicker than that), blotter paper, many sheets of stickers, short ruler, petite adhesive runner, pen-shaped scissors, several bookmarks, a large clip (if attached to the notebook), small acrylic charm, Midori d-clip mini paperclips (it fits PERFECTLY in a band), several business cards, Kaweco sport (a pocket pen), two Esterbrook Esties (a thicker pen), Uniball P-one, and two Mildliners. I still think I have plenty of room for more things. My only criticism is that I wish it could hold a thicker notebook, but it can hold my Stalogy and that’s enough for me! The Galen Leather Tamoe River notebook (the one with the black cover, not the leather one) is a smidgen thicker and it’s a bit of a squish to zip it up. Keep in mind this is also with a chunkier-than-advertised notebook and some chunky pens in there, not your typical Pilot G-2 or Uniball Signo. This also wouldn’t be a problem if I just carried around two pens in the bands instead of the removable four-pen holder.
Anyway, have I made enough lists yet? Do I need to make more to convince you to support this business? Because you should. I was worried about the price but every penny is worth it, both for this folio and the smaller A6 Field Notes 5-pen case I got. If you need an excuse to justify it, please blame me haha.

The case is well built and solid. I like how my Midori A5 and Leuchtturm fit on the right side. Most of my gear fits well. The loops are big... Very big. Great to drop in two pencils but too small for two pens without stretching it too much. Near the center I wish I could change up the two lops top and large loop bottom, I may even cut them out. Because they barely meet my need or get in my way. Lastly I wish I had some sort of non leather grip on the outside. The leather is nice but I crave some additional texture when I carry it around my office. Its a feeling I can describe as "monochrome"... Dunno why.

My gripes are small and probably very specific to how I use my kit. Solid piece of gear, I do recommend.

I like the layout of this design and that the pen insert can be taken out. I have 2 pen, 1 marker pen, 1 Kaweco pen, 1 corrector, a lipbalm, ear buds, usb stick and an A5 notebook inside. It's a very tight fit and books that were a bit thicker than a standard Leuchtteurm or one with a padded cover would be very hard to zip with all the accessoires. The zipper feels great and the overall quality is good as always. CH navy is a very nice inky colour, almost black. I really wish it was like 1-2 cm thicker to allow more breathing room and versatility. Esp since I actually want to use it for drawing/painting on the go.

I got this for my fiancé’s birthday, it’s the perfect size to keep his daily notebook and a selection of pens and tools without being too bulky. He tried a Bao bag from studio absent, but found it too large to lug around. This was perfect!

Wonderful leather, wonderful smell, wonderful color. I use it for my teacher planner. Pens are ready to hand at once. Very handy!

It is possible to get quite a lot to fit in here - it’s versatile. It can be used to carry smaller A5 notebooks, Leuchtturm A5 notebooks, hardbacks and paperbacks, along with diverse writing supplies.

The A5 zipfolio in crazy horse brown is perfect in every detail. I have had it for more than a year now, and I found a pretty good loadout for this little case. My go-to choice for the paper inside was the Rhodia dot pad, but I'll get some Midori paper in an A5 notebook configuration soon because I want to try out a more ivory shade of paper. I also found some nice tricks for this case. For example, you can put a microfiber cloth through the small metal hook at the top to clean any ink spills. You can also put postcards behind in the big slot, and I also store another cloth there. I received a single pen pouch which perfectly fits into the big latch in the middle, and behind it, I put a little ruler for drawing straight lines. At the top, I put a vial for the leads for my Pelikan pencil and an extra feed and nib for my Lamy 2000. The rest of the case is filled with a small notepad, my Kaweco Sport, and lastly with my Rally trademark 10. In the end, I can only say that I couldn't live without this thing, and I hope that I gave new or longer-term owners of this case new and better layout options and ideas.

So, I bought this a5 folio in Crazy Horse Orange, + a 5 slot zippered pen case, also in C.H Orange. They are just beautiful!! ^_^ So strongly built and thoughtfully designed; I'm in love. ♡ I even had matching sketchbooks made to fit inside each :) ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆ - these covers are the stuff of dreams! ^_^

This is a wonderful case for every day carry, for focusing on just the pens you might need in a meeting. The A5 slot allows you to use both a notebook or a writing pad, so it is versatile. I haven’t yet tried it with both a Leuchtturm notebook AND my chunkier Leonardo pens. These fit nicely in the ‘big pen’ sits through, so I think it will work out fine. A beautiful, beautiful case in a sober blue colour that is a wonderful offset to vibrant stationery.
